EVALUATION

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

• The Website has a really big welcoming which stands out well with a nice title saying The Victoria College. It has one main image which takes up most of the homepage, the images have been edited using auto-level on photoshop to make them of better quality and look more interesting. It includes links to the things featured in on the website.If I where to change anything I would have made the title font a lot bigger and bolder and I would used a different font because the font I used was rather plain and boring.
  

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

• My Website represents Victoria College and the students within the College, this is done by having photos of the college on the website and photos of the students. Also the website tells you about the College. It represents more upper class people because the College is very posh and it is expensive to go to.The class of the group is higher class ABC1. 
  

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

• Victoria College would tell people about my website as its a Victoria College website so the people that would be looking at it and viewing it would be people associated with Victoria College or people who want to find out about the college, for example up-coming,present,new and old students and parents of students and teachers would want to visit the website.
  

Who would be the audience for your media product?

• The audience for my website would be up-coming students to the college, students already at the College and parents of the students and the staff at the College, so there will be a wide range of features on the website to view as it is a big mixed audience.
  

How did you attract/address your audience?

• I used a big welcoming at the top of the homepage with a big photo of the college. The photo would capture people's eyes.I also used links so the people who want to find out more about whats happening at the college can. The welcoming connects with the person reading it and says they can get envoled with the college.
  

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

• I learnt how to use photoshop to crop and enhancing my photos making them look better and be of better quality.I also learnt how to use www.weebly.com and make a website using different layout and techniques.
  

THE POLL RESULTS I NEEDED

I used three small polls to find out the answers to these questions:

What shall the website be called?

100% of people voted that it should be called Victoria College Website

What is the most important link to be on the site?

100% of people voted that a link about up-coming events should be on the website

What should be on the media page?

100% of people said both photos and videos should be put on the media page

I used these result to help me make my website be the best it could. Also it was a good and easy way to find out what the people actually wanted themselves.

THE ORIGINAL LAYOUT PLAN

Below is what I originally wanted my layout to look like. I planned it out before I made the website using paint.

FINISHING IT OFF

Lastly I added some photos and uploaded other things that were needed.I then tidyed it up to make it look as good as possible, so it would be able to catch the viewers eye.

MAKING OTHER PAGES INCLUDING MEDIA PAGE

Now that I had made other pages, I had to add things on to the pages to make them look better and make the links go to what they say it would.Below is a picture showing how I made other pages and what type of things I put on the other pages.

On the media page for the College website I put videos on the page and links to examples of media work at Victoria College. I did this using the multimedia add on bit on weebly.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT

When designing the College website I had to think about:

• What do people want from the internet home page
• What colour schemes shall be used
• Which photos look interesting and good
• What shall be written and where shall it be placed
• Which effects should be used on photos
• Which effects should be used on writing
• What type of font shall be used
• How big do the photos need to be
• How big shall the font be
• What headings will be used
• What links shall it have
• etc..

HOW I WILL DO IT

I will make my Victoria College Website using Weebly because it is easy to understand how to use it. Also I will be able to link the finished website to my blog so people on my blog can see the finished product.

The target audeince

When making a Homepage for a college website people have to think about the target audeince:

• Gender-male/female
• Age-age group e.g. elderly, teenagers etc
• Interests-sports,computers, college subjects
• Class-ABC1,C2DE, lower,higher etc
  

The College Homepage that we are intending to make is for Victoria College, so it would most likely be aimed towards the students at the college who need to find out things like events coming up at the College.Another audience people would have to look at is up-coming students to the college and parents and teachers of the students attending the college because they would want to find more about the college.The College homepage would have to look posh and interesting to make the college look good and make people go on the website.

JCG media page

Above is the JCG college media page, it is not to great but is alot better than the Victoria College media webpage.It has a nice small welcoming at the top telling the viewer about the course of media studies at JCG. Under the welcoming is a media studies video showing what media studies could be like. All up the side is links to other pages about box office and other things. Under the video is a small finsihing saying about media studies. At the top of the page is a nice big title saying http://www.jcgmedia.co.uk/ next to the title it has a small picture of a camera, this looks good and makes the title part look less boring. There is no use of semiotics. If I gave the media studies JCG page a merk out of ten I would give it 6/10.

JCG college homepage

Above is the existing JCG website homepage, it has a very big welcoming and tells the viewer alot of information about the college. It is a very good long welcoming which could barely be improved.At the top of the page is a big slideshow of photos of the college and events which the college has been in, with the welcoming under it.At the very top of the page is the website header/title saying Jersey College For Girls and next to the title is the JCG college crest. Under the title is a small college slogan saying thinking about learning, learning about living.

All along the side of the page is links of on to pages to do with jersey and the buses . Also along the top of the page are links to other pages to do with the college like students,staff,vacancies, downloads etc this is good becasue thge links are easy to find and can get people to find what they want easyily. At the bottom of the page is a college login so you can get deeper into the sie if you work there or go to the college, this is good because it uses security. Also on the bottom of the is links to get to recent events and has photos next to the links to see what they are.There is only two use of semioctics with the colour red because it is the college's colours. The other use of semioctics is putting the college crest at the top of the page so people link the picture with the college. If I were to give a mark out of ten for the JCG college homepage I would give it 8/10.

MEDIA COLLEGE WEBPAGE

This college media page is terrible, it has no pictures on and the links go on to other pages but there is nothing on them. There is no welcoming to the media page so the viewer does not know what it is all about. There is no use of semiotics except the use of yellow and black which are the school colours. If I were to give the media page a rating out of ten i would give it 2/10 which is very, very bad.

EXISTING COLLEGE WEB PAGES

Above is the existing Victoria College website home page, it has a small welcoming saying about college but it does not say much and could be improved.It has one main photo in the middle of the page of the college, this looks good because it captures the eye of people. It also lets the person viewing the site see what the college looks like. On the homepage it has a scrolling bar of various photos of things which happen at the college, this looks good and nice and smart because it is a different way of showing lots of photos.Also on the homepage it has many different links to other pages on the site, on the other pages it has things about the school.Also the web sites homepage has a small title in the middle of the page within the photo of the college,saying Victoria college.The title does not look that good beause it is small and I think could be better if it was put at the top of the page.It also uses a good use of semiotics with links from seeing one thing to thinking about another thing.The homepage uses a yellow and black theme which makes the people viewing the site think of the Victoria college because yellow and black are the colours of the college. If I were to rate this homepage out of ten I would give it 7/10 becuase there is not much at all wrong with it and looks like an average website homepage.
